Kids & Families

The foundation for healthy and beautiful teeth is laid in childhood.
At Elfi Dental kids we focus on the individual needs of children and families.
We therefore provide adequate individual support in all areas of dental care and treatment.

Orthodontics

Beautiful even teeth and an open happy smile improve the quality of life. Healthy and straight teeth are a sign of attractiveness and success. Orthodontics  is therefore a wise investment in the future of your child.

It is of interest to check the dentition of your child already in early age. Some dental treatments, as well as orthodontics, might be indicated already as early as approx. 3-4 years of age. Misalignments of teeth, lack of space for permanent teeth and a beginning malformation of the jaw bones can often be diagnosed early and treatment initiated. In a playful way, treatment exercises (myofunctional therapy), simple orthodontic methods can avoid early on more severe consequences in an older age of your child.

An early loss of a primary tooth often leads to a later lack of space for the permanent tooth. The simple use of a placeholder can keep the tooth gap open for the permanent tooth.

At Elfi Dental Care, we have an Internationally  trained Interceptive Orthodontist who can intervene early on and  in an efficient way.

During treatment in mixed dentition often removable braces (utensils produced with coloured dental acrylates and special wires) are used. Functional orthodontics supports a harmonised growth of face and soft tissue parts. Additionally, it stabilizes the bite and avoids tooth extractions caused by crowded teeth.

Once all the permanent teeth have come through, the main growth of the jaw has generally come to an end. Growth correction possibilities are very limited at this point in time. The main focus lies on the correction of tooth misalignments. All types of physical tooth movements e.g. tipping, rotating and parallel tooth shifts are carried out by the so-called “fixed braces”. In this case the brackets are cemented onto the teeth by means of special glue and connected with thermo-elastic wires. The restoring force of the special arches is transferred to the teeth via the bracket and leads to reconstruction processes in the bone which makes tooth movement possible.

Alternatively the invisible tooth braces, Invisalign,  can be used too. At the beginning of the treatment photos, X-ray images and dental imprints are made, which will be converted into 3D images. Your dentist will show you afterwards a 3-D computer simulation of the estimated treatment results. The customised alignment splints are fitted step by step every two weeks in order to bring the teeth successively into the desired position.

Paediatric Dentistry

At Elfi Dental kids we consider the special needs of children. Beside individually adapted treatment methods based on the newest research of dentistry, we provide a child-orientated environment. Our dental providers are highly trained in the treatment of children and many of them are parents of little children themselves. Our well-educated specialists look after your child with sensitivity and care. We provide a trusting atmosphere for children and adolescents.

Children can develop a strong fear of the dentist even in younger years. Especially for children we provide the following treatments:

Behavior management

Behavior guidance techniques are used to alleviate anxiety, nurture a positive dental attitude, and perform quality oral health care safely and efficiently for infants, children, adolescents, and persons with special health care needs. Selection of techniques are tailored to the needs of the individual patient and the skills of the practitioner

General Anaesthetic

Very young and fearful children or children, who need a complex and time-consuming treatment, can also be treated under general anaesthesia.

Also in case of dental fillings, we take care of your child individually and age-appropriate. Thanks to modern filling materials it is not necessary anymore to grind down healthy tooth structure for implementing fillings. Our goal is to gently achieve a healthy and aesthetic ideal result for your child.

It is important that children get to learn about the importance of dental hygiene and the correct use of oral care products right from the beginning. We explain to your child everything worth knowing about an effective oral care.

When should I start to visit the dentist with my child?

It is advisable that children in the ages between 1 ½ to 2, visit the dentist for the first time to ensure an optimal oral hygiene right from the beginning. Eventual dental problems can then be identified and treated in the earliest possible stage.

Elfi Dental provides also the full range of paediatric dentistry and offers extensive support at all levels. Our specially trained staff are  experienced in dealing with the needs of children and adolescents.

It is advised for children to attend the professional tooth cleaning regularly to avoid dental decay and gingivitis. This is especially the case when orthodontic braces are in place. The duration and intensity of the procedure is adjusted to the individual needs of children and adolescents. Our specialists respond to their young patients and explain every step of the treatment.

The first teeth break through with a baby in a certain order. Until all teeth are visible, it takes different lengths of time:

5 months: The first incisor looks out (mostly below)

1 year: All eight incisors are usually already visible

After nearly 2 years: the last molar tooth is pressing through, the milk teeth are complete

Symptoms and relief during teething

Teething in babies produces a series of symptoms that can be treated differently.

Drooling: The teeth press against the gums from the inside. This is unpleasant to painful for the baby, which is why it feels relief when it can press the hand or object against it. This stimulates the flow of saliva. The mouth and the corners of the mouth can dry out and become sore by manipulation. Chilled bite rings (or brotto), the dabbing of the toothed rack with chamomile tea, as well as warm water or vaseline for application to the reddened mouth can help.

Fever and diarrhea: Contrary to popular opinion, tooth growth does not cause a fever. The reason why the fever nevertheless often occurs at the same time is that a baby experiences the first infections after 4 months. The immune system is built up during this phase, causing frequent fever.

As a general rule, the correct daily cleaning of the teeth is essential from the first tooth!
