Teeth cleaning

What to expect

Teeth scaling and cleaning is when your dentist removes all the plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) above and below the gum line, making sure to clean all the way down to the bottom of the pocket. Teeth cleaning is an important part of keeping your smile looking its best. Regular teeth cleaning can remove plaque and bacteria that can cause tooth decay and gum disease. If left untreated these conditions can lead to more serious health problems. Your dentist or dental hygienist can perform your teeth cleaning. In-office cleanings generally take 1-2 hours. During an in-office tooth cleaning, your dentist will use a small tool called a scaler to remove tartar buildup on the tooth surfaces. After cleaning, your dentist may polish your teeth to make them shine. Daily brushing and flossing can help keep your teeth clean between visits.

There are several different ways to keep your teeth clean and healthy: Brush at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Clean between your teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner. See your dentist regularly for professional cleaning and examination
